At this time of year, many people are considering if they are going to set any new year’s resolutions and if they are what they will be. Are you intending to set any resolutions, if so what will yours be?
An article in Forbes magazine indicates that only 8% of people are successful with achieving the changes they have set out to make, and 80% have failed and broken their resolutions by February.
In many cases, New Year’s resolutions are broken because they are set as wishes at new rather than meaningful goals, consequently there is very little if any commitment invested in achieving them. It is my desire for you to make 2019 your best year yet and I would like to show you how you can set your resolutions in a way that ensures that your success is inevitably successful.
“Stop setting goals. Goals are pure fantasy unless you have a specific plan to achieve them.” Stephen Covey

“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” Alexander Graham Bell

Lubricate your mind; drink plenty of water.
Be in a rested, invigorated and resourceful state of mind
“I thank God for my failures. Maybe not at the time but after some reflection. I never feel like a failure just because something I tried has failed.” Dolly Parton
The first step is to acknowlede where you are starting from as you approach 2019. What is the truth about your current situation as you leave 2018? Don’t make this worse, don’t make things better, be honest, what is the truth?
You may find it useful to use coaching tools such as balance wheels Click here or use this link http://iodb.co.uk/downloads/New-Year-Balance-Wheels-IODB.pdf

Alternatively, reflection questions such as those below may help you.
As you read these questions, don’t think about the answers, just write immediately what comes to mind.
1. What were my greatest accomplishments in last year?
2. What were my greatest disappointments?
3. What do I dream of achieving this year?
4. What do I want more of this year?
5. What must stay in last year?
“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”Tony Robbins
Consider what do you want?
Consider what do you want, personally?
Consider what do you want, professional?
Consider what do you want for any area of your life?
Decide what it is you really want to achieve in 2019 and what are the benefits of achieving this?
When setting your goals, it is often easier to set the long-term goals first, three, five, or ten- year goals first. Once you have the outline of where you dream of being in the future, then you start to set your annual and quarterly goals, which will become your action plans and tactics for success.
When setting your targets ensure they are balanced, paying attention to your physical, mental, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual self.
“The discipline of writing something down is the first step toward making it happen.” Lee Iacocca
“Empowerment isn't a buzzword among leadership gurus. It's a proven technique where leaders give their teams the appropriate training, tools, resources, and guidance to succeed.” John Rampton
What resources do you need to ensure that your targets are not day-dreams they are blueprints for success?
Resources fall into several categories
Think how are you going to organise your time so that you can gives your goals the attention they need. What do you need to say “no” to, so you can say “yes” to success? What do you need to delegate, what can you stop doing? Where can you use your time more effectively?
What do you need to buy or learn that requires a financial investment? How much do you need to invest?
What mindset, beliefs and values do you need to hold to be successful. What limiting self-beliefs do you currently have that stifle your success? Does your coach have the skills to have help you change your limiting self-beliefs? What self-care regimens, e.g. nutrition, hydration, sleep, exercise, meditation etc put you in the best state for achieving your goals?
Who do you need to support and encourage you? Who do you need as a coach, trainer and mentor? Who is going to hold you accountable and motivate you?
“Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” Michael Jordan
What is going to potentially interfere, inhibit, interrupt or eliminate your success? Be honest with yourself, what are your normal patterns and how can you change them to patterns of achievement? Where you have succeeded how did you achieve it, and how can you replicate it again.
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." Christopher Reeve”
“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” Confucius
“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going. Jim Ryun”
This final step is about ongoing motivation. Now you have made a start, what habits do you need to develop that will ensure that you keep going and continue to make progress until you have achieved what you dreamed of?
