How much have your indemnity fees gone up?

This week many dentists have received their annual indemnity renewal, and the post on social media indicate that we are being asked to pay considerably more. Some posters have indicated their fees have increased by 25% for some even more. Others are considering leaving the profession because they can no longer afford the indemnity fees.

Things we know
·      Indemnity fees are based on risk.
·      The more complex your treatment, e.g. sinus lifts, the more your fees will be
·      The more claims against you the higher your fees.
·      No win no fee lawyers are actively sniffing out claims to pursue.
·      The GDC and CQC make specific references to expected levels of communication skills including non-verbal communication.
·      Patients are more likely to complain because of your communication skills and how they ‘felt’ than the quality of your clinical care.
·      Advanced communication skills are not taught at dental school
·      55% of your communication is non-verbal and only 7% is based on words.
