How bad does the pain have to get?


How bad does the pain have to get before your patients visit the dentist?
 

Do you get frustrated when patients come into your surgery with a big fat face, and in a lot of pain, often on a Sunday, when you know that with timely intervention, the pain, expense and inconvenience could have been prevented? You will take a history and almost without exception your patient will tell you, that several months ago they had a ‘twinge’ they took some painkillers and after a while they didn’t notice the pain so they thought it was ok. You may have even seen them for a routine examination and recommended some treatment, which your patient chose not to accept because,”It doesn’t hurt at the moment.”

I have had two new clients that have asked me this week, are they the only dentist that ignores problems in their practice until it becomes really complicated? Fortunately I am able to reassure them, for their own sanity, and unfortunately for the profession as a whole, dentists are experiencing ‘twinges’ in their practice on a daily or weekly basis which they are choosing to ignore until the discomfort is overwhelming, and then they seek my assistance as a dental business coach and trainer.

Common problems that can be prevented through early intervention include;
